Dante Ahn (Kor: 안단테) is a student at Reincarnation High School. Due to "bad behavior", he was in the Student Detention Center for over 2 underworld years. In his past life, his father had killed his mother and him by eating them.

Appearance

In his humanoid form, Dante has a bony, black tail and four black-tipped horns. He has heterochromatic eyes, the left one being red and the right one being light purple. His hair is purple on the right and black on the left, which is also shaved. He is usually seen wearing black shorts, a white shirt, a black jacket, black shoes, garter socks, an oversized black collar, and a harness-like item over his chest. He also has single, black helix piercing in his left ear.

In a flashback from before he took the memory capsule that gave him his powers, Dante had shorter horns and no tail.

In his P.E. uniform, he wears a black and white pullover and black pants that stop below his knees.

Personality

He is mischievous and sly as he frequently sneaks outside of the detention center and plots revenge for the Red Eclipse Festival. He is good at putting up a more cheerful, innocent front for the staff and students so as to hide his evil intentions from them. During his third final Repentance Test and several flashbacks, he shows to have complete control of his emotions and utilizes this as he desires. He even fooled Dicarius into believing he had sincere intentions on a regular basis. However, he can make mistakes in his façade, as seen when he accidentally mentions Fire Dogs to Dicarius.

In his final scene, he is seen asking his mother if he did the right thing, which suggests his motive for taking revenge might not have been entirely personal and that he has somewhat of a moral conscience.

History

Dante used to be a model student with a good attitude. After taking a memory capsule, he discovered that he was the son of an evil sea serpent and acquired the full extent of his powers. Without explanation, the teachers told Dante to keep it a secret from his peers. His "so-called friends" eventually found out and began to blackmail him, saying that if he stole the answer for the next test, they would keep it a secret. At some point afterward, his friends blamed all of it on him. Dante never got the chance to explain himself as no one would listen to him. In retaliation, he stole his friends' memory capsules. Under the impression that Dante was becoming evil like his father, the staff placed Dante in the student detention center. This upset him and he swore to get his revenge.

Dante was shown to maintain his positive relationship with Dicarius, who visited him at the Detention Center often.

Plot

Dante would often leave the detention center to find "pets" for his plan, such as Chiyeol and Cloudy. Over time he developed his plan for revenge. During this time, he also failed his repentance test twice. He began his plot during the Red Eclipse Festival, where he let loose the Firedogs and Infernal Spirits. He also transformed into his Sea Serpent form.

Queen Yemma showed Dante a flashback of his and his mother's deaths in an effort to convince Dante to stop but to no avail. Dante began to speak to Mook, offering him a position in his plot by suggesting that they were family because they are both sea serpents. However, when Mook refused, Dante got angry and proceeded to attack him. When Aru saw Mook in danger, she used a bottle to strike the end of Dante's tail, which proved to be his weak point. The Grim Reaper realized this and struck him with his scythe, which led to his death. He died wondering and asking his mother if he did the right thing.

Relationships

Dicarius

Dicarius and Dante maintained a friendly and amicable relationship during the time Dante was in the Detention Center. They became so close that when Dicarius had a sore wing, he revealed to Dante that it was because he fought 30 enemies at once. Dicarius believed Dante did not harbor hard feelings, but this was not true. Dante later shows that this relationship was false on his part, and he never truly believed Dicarius cared for him. He ultimately betrayed Dicarius by attacking the wound only he knew about.

History Teacher

Given Dante's "teacher's pet" persona prior to taking his memory capsule, it can be concluded that he and the History Teacher had a good relationship. However, as soon as he took the memory capsule, the teachers turned on him, including the History Teacher. He became one of the people Dante hated the most, despite Dante convincing him he was forgiven.

Abilities and Skills

Intellect: Dante is said to have gotten good grades in his first year. He is also perceptive, taking note of Dicarius's injury and attacking it in his final battle. He is highly skilled in lying, manipulating others, and faking his own emotions. This is seen when he recruits Chiyeol, and later, the Infernal Spirits, by appealing to their desires. Whether this is raw talent or an ability inherited from his father is unknown.

Sea Serpent Physiology: In his sea serpent form, he can fly, lift a human with ease, constrict his enemies, and bite another sea serpent's neck.

Shadow Shape-shifting: This allows him to transform himself into a shadow. This ability allows him to dodge and teleport easily.

Power and influence: When he visited two infernal spirits in his first year, he raised his hand and they trembled in fear as a result. Because of how powerful his father is, he has power over infernal spirits and commanded them in his final battle.
